The Maniac Is in the Details
XS1 is a collection of artworks created between 2006 and 2013 under the pseudo-genre of digital baroque, a term that described as closely as possible my obsession with Adobe Photoshop.
I started working with the software in 1999 in what I believe was Version 2, installed on Windows 3.1. Not long after that, the first signs of OCPMD (obsessive-compulsive pixel manipulation disorder) started to show up. Within five years I was stacking hundreds of layers on the spinning drives of single core Pentium machines, which at the time were all the rage. Once I dropped one of them and lost a bounty of what I believe were my earliest masterpieces. Those that survived both the test of time and fate are included here and are soon going to be printed in a special edition coffee table book. Even today opening those files in Photoshop makes my fifteen inch MacBook Pro choke. It’s a testament to my obsession with digital art.
